I have a Minolta laser printer and when it prints there are spots on the page with no toner. Why?

They are small spots, just a couple of letters missing. Not always in the same place on the page. It’s a new toner cartridge, the replacemant for the one that came with the machine, so it has very little use. I’ve tried shaking it and that doesn’t help. THanks for your help. Mike
